Principal/Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Requirements
Effective supervision of mechanical designers and drafters.
Ability to generate and operate on a critical path schedule.
Ability to predict design costs and achieve cost targets.
Experience in a fast paced production oriented engineering projects.
Real world experience in machine design; tolerances, fits, threads, finishes, etc..
Real word experience in fabrication design; weldments, fixtures, finishes, etc..
Materials engineering experience: metallurgy; heat treatments, stainless, non-ferrous alloys, plastics, elastomers.
Experience in injection molding and casting of metals and non-metals.
Thorough understanding of machining and fabrication methods and their limitations.
Experience specifying and analyzing properly sized bearings, springs, bolts, etc..
DFM (design for manufacturing) to control costs.
Fluid Handling & Fluid Power:
Sealing technology: Specification and use of o-rings, wipers,
Hydraulic components, fittings, valves, pumps, motors, sensors, etc..
Hydraulic conductor sizing and fluid transmission.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Ansys preferred: Linear and non-linear, metals and non-metals.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Ansys CFX preferred: Both incompressible and non-compressible flow.
Fatigue analysis; modeling and corrective design.
Fluid mechanics; pressure loss calculations, water hammer, etc..
Vibration analysis; modal analysis, dampening, forced response, etc..
Lubrication: Boundary layer lubrication in journal bearings, including bearing design.
Competency in thermal CFD analysis, including multi-material, multi-state.
General refrigeration cycle understanding and conventional refrigeration practice.
Basic practices in heat rejection; conduction, radiation, convection.
General power and signal connector practices.
General cable routing and termination practices.
Basic understanding of analog and digital signaling.
Design and develop motion control systems using servo, stepper, or linear motors, and associated control systems
Perform a wide array of mechanical design calculations
Analyze, design and develop concepts that meet product design goals for equipment intended to go into production
Work with document control staff to manage the maintenance of documentation within the assigned design area
Interface with manufacturing, customer service, sales and marketing departments related to the assigned design area
Assist with and supervise designers, drafters and technicians
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
5-10 years relevant work experience
Extensive knowledge and experience working with motion control systems
Strong background in mechanics of materials and fracture mechanics
Familiar with conventional mechanical failure analysis
Design experience with SolidWorks
A solid understanding of linear and non-linear FEA
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
The ability to work independently or function well within a team environment
Have a solid understanding of machine tools, including capabilities and limitations
Familiarity with pneumatics and hydraulic systems
Extraordinary attention to detail
Basic knowledge of software and electrical systems
