We are seeking someone with a background in mechanical engineering, with specific emphasis on the measurement and interpretation of acoustics, vibrations, roughness, and/or texture. We are an international transportation engineering firm headquartered in Austin, Texas. We specialize in pavements, but have a rapidly expanding program in highway noise, friction, and texture. We have numerous long-term projects involving acoustical measurements both wayside and near the tire-pavement interface. We are also actively developing and operating systems for the measurement of pavement texture and friction. A working knowledge of transportation noise measurement is helpful, however not required. We want someone with the right attitude, as we enjoy the people we work with. We also need someone with a lot of common sense and a high mechanical aptitude, as we are a very practical discipline. We need someone who is willing to travel the country and the world; we need someone who is organized with an attention to detail; we need someone who can think and act quickly on their feet; and we need someone who is outgoing, a little adventurous, and fun to work with.
We currently have one opening for a full-time mechanical engineer with an emphasis in the testing and interpretation of noise, vibration, and texture. You’ll conduct measurements and analysis using some of the most advanced techniques in the industry. You’ll develop and refine these systems, and even help develop evaluation techniques for other engineering properties such as friction, mechanical impedance, and various thermodynamic characteristics. You’ll conduct engineering, technology transfer, and research and development for the private and public sectors on a wide variety of transportation projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
To be the right fit, you’ll need to have a high mechanical aptitude, and further have a keen understanding of the principles and practice of mechanical engineering. It is also important that you have to have a great attitude, leadership skills, enjoy working closely with a team of enthusiastic and creative people, and have a strong work ethic. You should be willing to travel frequently (as much as 2/3 of the time) and for extended periods (typically 2-3 weeks at a time) conducting field testing and technology transfer.
