Product Development - Electrical Engineer
Job Description:
The Product Development Engineer will provide key technical knowledge and hands-on support of the existing product lines and new product development. Product support includes but is not limited to power management, small portable battery systems, consumer electronics based national and international standards plus codes compliance, and specialized technology testing and evaluation. The successful candidate will work as part of a team providing day-to-day technical knowledge as well as undertaking design work and new product development.
Responsibilities:
-Performs product characterization and core technology lab testing, measurements and analysis, publishing succinct results and making key recommendations.
- Identify, test and specify new materials that meet the performance, cost and reliability requirements for current and future products
-Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of specific product line(s), and product applications. Including technical support for portable power products and battery technologies.
-Work closely with customers, co-workers, contractors and partners, developing influence with support resources and credibility with all customers.
-Analyze competitor products and prepare technical product comparison reports.
- Provide support with the design, test development, material characterization and design for manufacturability across the product roadmap as required.
-Develop and review electrical design work as a key member of the development team supporting and following the established company Product Lifecycle process. Support the development of future product architectures and systems.
Basic Qualifications - Required Experience, Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, plus five or more years applicable consumer electronics industry experience.
- Minimum 2+ years relevant technical experience in a high volume consumer electronics environment following a structured product development process.
- Demonstrated ability to develop electrical designs complete with documentation to the next stage of the product lifecycle process. Designs achieve optimal production cost and performance. Microcontroller firmware development experience a plus.
- Experience in working as part of a disciplined and dedicated team which is geographically distributed.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake technical investigations and reviews.
- Demonstrated well developed communication and interpersonal skills, especially in communicating complex technical tradeoff analysis to executives and non-technical coworkers and customers.
- Knowledge of green power technology including solar cells, generators, inverters, charging circuits, batteries, and other system components preferred.
- Willing to travel, national and international, up to 15% of the time.
